The 18th Annual Loud & Queer Cabaret

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

Consider this your personal invitation to gather up your writing, your ideas, your music, your creative sparks, your stories, your pride, your passion for justice, and your ability to make Art, and let Loud & Queer showcase it to the world!

Co-produced by Guys In Disguise and Workshop West Theatre, L&Q is an inter-arts celebration of all that is emerging and fabulous in the world of Queer culture. This annual showcase has debuted brand-new material every November since 1991, giving Edmonton LGBTQQ audiences a preview of what’s to come in the world of the written, the spoken, the sung/played/danced/filmed Queer word. Join the community of artists that makes L&Q beat at the heart of the cultural scene of Western Canada. And now, as part of the Exposure, Edmonton’s Festival of Queer Arts, the scope and breadth of opportunity to get your work seen is expanding annually!

Submit any format (play, story, poem, song, novel, bellydance routine) – maximum time in the show will be 15 minutes, but feel free to send more!

Work included in the L&Q Cabaret will receive dramaturgical support, and will be performed by our stellar cast of professional actors.

Send all submissions to kevin@guysindisguise.com

We will be contacting all creators personally once the submissions have been received.

Looking forward to seeing what you’re working on…

- Darrin Hagen, Director/Curator, Loud & Queer Cabaret.

Students from the University of Alberta wanted to know:

What kind of relationship do you have with feminism?

Are you in a long-term relationship?
Is it unrequited love? A love triangle?
Are you in love or in lust?
Do you have a crush on feminism?
Perhaps you are having a lovers’ quarrel?

The exhibition begins this weekend:

Youth Curators in the news!

Vue Weekly's Queermonton columnist, Tamara Gorzalka, catches up with Jolanda Thomas, one of the festival's youth curators.

One of the coolest things about Edmonton is the way our queer culture has so wholly embraced art. I know that every town has its share of art fags, but ours is a true community, a vibrant and diverse one that seems dedicated to not just creating and sharing art, but to making sure the ways to view and create it are available to everyone. It's hard to believe that the Exposure Festival is only entering its third year, as it seems already such an entrenched and invaluable cornerstone of Edmonton's gay art scene.

More at Vue.

Make sure to check out Printed Matters: Creating & Curating Queer during the festival at both the Art Gallery of Alberta and SNAP.
